I often think New Years Resolutions are a quixotic task to take on, because....just like my usual attempts to blog on a regular basis, they end abruptly, and are usually forgotten (as evidenced by my most recent post in this blog in August).....
However, this year we will give them the good-old college try once again......I am going to step forward this year with the following personal and professional goals/resolutions:
1. Lose more! An utterly cliche resolution, but I happened to drop 30 pounds in the second half of 2013, so why not lose some more?
2. Write More! I ask my students to do a lot of writing. Be it timed writings, poems, current event journals, or blogs of their own. I don't......aside from my lessons or powerpoints, I do not do a lot of writing. So I will try to hop on the blogging train once again. This time, I will try to support the writings of others through the 20 day blogging challenge. We'll see if I can share my daily musings, thoughts, or good/bad ideas of the day.
3. Engage More! While my attitude in the classroom or around students is relatively carefree or sometimes a bit curmudgeonly, It is about time I start increasing my personal engagement with all students. I am going to find different ways to try doing this, but one is by increasing behavioral monitoring and offering positive and negative incentives through websites like Class Dojo and others.
We'll see if I have more thoughts or ideas later....but its a start.......
It is time for sleep, I have inservice tomorrow, and more Sons of Anarchy to watch on Netflix!
