What is the Most Influential Supreme Court Case of All Time? Fall 2011
The students in my AP Government and Politics class were all given a Supreme Court case that they randomly drew from a hat. Students were asked to create the following three things: 1. A Case Brief, 2. A Paper describing the case and why they think it is influential/important, 3. A 2-3 minute oral argument describing why they believe their case is the "Most Influential Case of All Time." Cases were then randomly pitted against each other in a bracket-style tournament where students debated the merits of their various cases. The winner advanced to the next round. The voting bodies were: The class (one vote), a State Senator, and Myself or a student teacher. Some of these debates happened in the old Kansas Supreme Court Chamber. Attached is the assignment description given to the students.
